Dr. Mihai Bălan

With an R&D background in the field of energy storage technologies, hydrogen and Li-ion batteries, at ICSI Rm. Vâlcea and CEA Grenoble, Mihai Bălan joined RWEA (Romanian Wind Energy Association) in 2017 as a Policy Officer, eager to get actively involved in enabling the energy transition in Romania through relevant strategy, policy and market design mechanisms.

Mihai Balan obtained his PhD from Arts et Métiers ParisTech and University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB) with a thesis investigating the Romanian and European potential of Power-to-Gas applications and holds a Bachelor and Master degree in Power Engineering from UPB. He is also a member of IEA Hydrogen TCP Task 38 on Power-to-Hydrogen and Hydrogen-to-Methane.

 

Denisa Diaconu

Denisa Diaconu is an analyst at Energy Policy Group, an independent think-tank specialised on energy policy.

Currently she is doing an MBA in energy at the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, Romania. She already holds a Master Degree in Political Theory and Policy Analysis (2017) and a Bachelor Degree in Political Sciences (2015), both from the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration.

In 2017 she spent a term at Karlova University in Prague studying at the Public and Social Policy Department. Previously to EPG, Denisa worked in several research projects for Median Research Center, Innovation Research Foundation, and Research Institute for the Quality of Life. At the moment, her main interests span from energy transition and integration of renewable energy to ways of decarbonizing the energy sector and circular economy.

 

Dr. Arvind Kumar

Dr. Arvind Kumar is the President of the India Water Foundation (IWF). On the basis of IWF’s work on water conservation at National, regional & sub-regional levels, the Foundation received the Special Consultative Status with UN-ECOSOC, Observer Status at the Governing Body of UNEA, Observer Status with UNFCCC and member of CTCN for Southern Asia. Dr. Kumar is on the Board of Governors of the World Water Council.

He specializes in ecosystem-based adaptation, water-energy-food nexus, emphasizing inter-linkages between water, environment and SDGs. He is a member of ‘National Wetlands Committee, MoEF&CC, GOI, member Technical Advisory Committee for India’s Third National Communication and Biennial Update Reports to UNFCCC, member of the Meghalaya State Water Resources Council and Meghalaya council for Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Member of the General Body of CAPART, Member Working Group on Water Resources Development and Management New India @75, NITI Aayog, GOI. In Sikkim, IWF is collaborating with Government of Sikkim in water resources, Sustainable Development and in Aspirational Districts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

He holds PhD in Defense Studies, is a renowned political commentator, frequently contributing articles on contemporary political, socio-economic, environmental and defense related issues in prominent journals. He has published over 350 plus research articles in recent years on national and international issues in reputed journals. He is also the editor of online e-Magazine Focus Global Reporter published from New Delhi, India. He is the lead author of publication with SAC Dhaka titled “SAARC Outlook on Water-Energy-Food Nexus in SAARC Region” published in December 2015.

He was conferred the 40th Matrishree Media Awards, in 2015, for his contribution as journalist, the Triveni Award for his contribution in the field of Environment and Water, in the same year. Dr. Kumar was also conferred the Achievers Award, for contribution towards environment protection, by India Eye, the International Human Rights Observer title, in collaboration with United Nations Information Centre for India & Bhutan, on World Environment Day, in 2017, in New Delhi.

IWF has won, for two consecutive years, the Water Digest Water Award, under the Category “BEST WATER NGO”, in 2017-18 (Water Education) & 2018-19 (Water and Sanitation).

 

Costin Lupu

With an experience of more than 15 years in sales and business development, Costin Lupu has held various positions in Monsson.

He started in 2014, as International Business Development Manager, being responsible for Monsson’s business expansion in South Africa and GCC countries. One year later, Costin Lupu become Country Manager for Qatar and Regional Business Development Manager for Middle East and Africa. Among his responsibilities were establishing and developing the Monsson Group business in the Middle East countries, creating and developing relationships with the most important members of the GCC water & energy market (Kahraama, QEWC, DEWA, Masdar, Saudi Electricity), promoting large scale water desalination powered by renewable energy integrated projects. He was in charge with the setting up of the first wind measurement campaign in Qatar and also organized the implementation and launching of a small scale water desalination powered by renewable energy pilot project in Qatar.

Since 2016, Costin is in charge with establishing and developing the Monsson Group Business in four of the Western Europe countries (UK, Ireland, France and Italy), as well as Middle East and Africa. His main responsibility is creating and developing business relationships with the most important players in the energy and financial markets. He is also responsible for the implementation of acquisition strategy for operating renewable energy facilities in different countries around Europe and USA.
